Assistant Director

Luke Basso

Mr. Basso was born and raised in Wickford, Rhode Island where he grew up in an environment full of music.  His love of music was developed and encouraged by his parents Don and Sandra Basso at an early age.  With the music of Chicago, Kool and the Gang, Blood Sweat and Tears and The Commodores being popular at the time, trumpet playing greatly appealed to Luke as that sound was always prominent in those groups.  Influenced by strong elementary and middle school music programs, Luke was able to take what he learned in class and apply it to his instrument.  John Russell, Jazz ensemble director at Bishop Hendricken High in Warwick, R.I. influenced and taught Luke to be a real player, as well as introducing Luke to the sounds of big band, Harry James, Miles Davis and of course Maynard Ferguson.

Mr. Basso holds a Bachelors of Science from Barry University, and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Science. He has taught science at Hialeah Middle School, Barbara Goleman High School, and Palm Beach Gardens High School where he was also the band director. He now teaches Biology and Anatomy here at Palm Beach Central and also directs the Bronco Jazz Band and the Jazz Combo.
